Operation Turkey 2014

Shametra Turkey Day 6With so much we could be thankful. Operation turkey is one of those things. Beginning in 2000 with just one meal and now celebrating their 15th year of providing meals to the homeless. This year Operation turkey fed 20,000! While drivers went out into the community delivering food the requirement was to give a handshake, smile or hug.

Shout out to The Travis County Sheriff’s Deputies that dedicated their time to provide safety and traffic control. There were 1100 Austin volunteers  that plated and delivered food. Ujima Magazine commends our youth for volunteering and understanding the true meaning of giving back to the community. Police Officer 2

Shout out to the little league football team Ducks! These youth were going full speed to gather plates for the delivery drivers. If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities with Operation turkey please go to http://www.operationturkey.com/ Ujima Magazine would like to thank Richard Bagdonas the founder for the interview.
