Finding Peace In A Busy Season

Damita Miller-Shanklin

The season has arrived for sparkling lights, tinsel, beautifully decorated Christmas Trees and all the songs of the season coming through our television and radios.

This year seems different. The chaos of uncertainty, trying to make sure your family and friends have a great holiday season as well. I get it! But we all have to slow down and find our peace. The place we can go to settle our minds and a place we can find calm and relaxation.

We all have our ways of staying in tune with our mental health and finding peace that refuels our spirit and gets us moving again. I wanted to share some things I do that help me feel peaceful and relaxed.

  1. Have brunch with your friends. Brunch with my friends always  brings laughter, catching up and feeling connected.
  2. Spend time with your siblings. Have a movie night. This is a place where I can feel safe and the most happy. Reminisce about your favorite memories.
  3. Order online. I don’t enjoy going to the mall any longer. I did at one time. I know, to some, that makes the Christmas experience more real but by ordering online and having things delivered, gives me more time to relax and enjoy my down time. I feel peaceful vs. panic and going from place to place. I just don’t have the energy any longer for that type of activity.
  4. Keep your therapy appointment. This is so important for a peaceful season. Being able to talk about missing your loved ones who passed away, and any other topics that can steal your peace. Having someone to listen, can really help.

My suggestions for peace during this holiday season may not work for you, but I hope it provides some thoughts about how you can feel connected to your friends and family, stress free shopping and ensuring your mental health is stable.

Ujima and I wish you a very great holiday season.

Keep Blooming🌻
