Ujima: August Newsletter

Editor’s Viewpoint

As the Editor, I felt I had worked hard on each issue and the topics were serious and heavy. It was information that needed to be shared but a feeling of heaviness all the same. As always, the feature stories were “everyday heroes” doing what they do to make our community better.

I needed to slow down a little myself, so when thinking about the August issue, I wanted to share some stories of being happy and joyous. We all need a little joy and sunshine in our lives.

This issue is all about memories of things that brought joy and how joy can change the way your life feels on a daily basis. I hope you enjoy the issue as much as we enjoyed sharing it.

Feature Story

I enjoyed sharing my memories of ice cream Sundays, Given’s Park, a family beach trip and checking out books at the Carver Library. I still enjoy having ice cream on a hot summer day. Read the full issue at ujimamagazine.com

Stories From the Issue

The story I enjoyed writing was You’re More Creative Than You Think. I wanted to show how we are creative in many things we do, but we just don’t notice. Many people think creativity is only a painting or sketching, including me, but in my research I realized things such as cooking without a recipe or capturing a moment on camera that other people may not notice. These are all things that make us creative and independent of someone else. Read the story in the August issue.

What We Are Loving

Ujima Magazine welcomes Kiounis Williams. He has joined our team as a Contributing Writer.

We had been searching for a male’s voice and perspective to add more depth to our magazine. Mr. Williams will bring a perspective to assist in understanding the struggles, successes and voices of the male experiences.

Welcome and we are glad you are a part of the Ujima family.

Before We Go…

If you know Ujima, you are fully aware we love coffee and good food. Coffee is my go to when I need to feel a sip of joy. I loovvee me some coffee.

Coffee relaxes me and it just makes me feel good. As a matter of fact, I plan to attend the Coffee fest again this year in October. I am always #coffeedrunk. I had a t-shirt made just for my love of coffee. 🙂
