Save Our Services Rally: Speaks Out Against Mass Layoffs and Cuts to Federal Public Programs

On February 19th, 2025 at 5:30 pm, the Save Our Services Rally at Republic Square (406 San Antonio St., Austin, TX 78701) will bring together federal workers and community members who to speak out against mass layoffs and cuts in public services as directed by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

This rally is a part of a national call to action by the Federal Unionist Network, an informal association of federal unionists and allies. Council Member Mike Siegel, who represents District 7 on the Austin City Council, is scheduled to speak. Federal workers send out Social Security checks to our seniors and provide healthcare through Medicare and Medicaid; they organize emergency assistance during disasters and ensure all of us can access vital public services. Billionaires like Elon Musk won’t feel the negative effects of these brutal cuts and layoffs, but working people will. That’s we need to organize locally — to build power, push back against the DOGE attacks and protect the American people,” said Council Member Mike Siegel.

The rally is family-friendly and open to all. Organizers ask attendees to show support by wearing red, white or blue and use the hashtag #SaveOurServices on social media. More information about the national Save Our Services Action at bit.ly/SOSaction.
