Ujima Loves A Wine Tasting!

The first year the focus for Ujima Magazine was to reach the community. We wanted our readers to  know we were new in Austin and we wanted to be a platform for the Black community. The magazine included many great shares and tips on wine and gave recommendations to our readers. When looking for  a fundraiser, we decided to have a wine tasting event.  Alphonse Dodson, of Centenberg Vineyards, had been a featured cover story,  so it was fitting to have him be apart of the event. On June 26, 2009, we introduced Ujima to the community with a wine tasting event held at the beautiful Green Pastures. It was a great success! Ujima made many wonderful new friends that evening. Thanks to Natomi Austin Blair for coordinating the event.  We want to share the photos from our very first event. Enjoy the memories as we did. #ujimamagazine7yrs #birthday #celebratingthevision #community @meintheatx @lifemusicatx @paigeturna @rock_theone @ujimamagazine Embrace Your Community! Coworking Before Coworking Was Cool…

In 2008 my sister and I needed a place to meet and work on Ujima. We had to decide on stories, interviews, plans for the future and writing.  We have always lived on the opposite sides of town but I was willing to drive  to Pflugerville because we found the ultimate coworking space. Blue MARBLE Java !! We sat at Blue Marble Java Coffee Shop, which is now a donut shop, at least five days a week.  It was our perfect coworking space. We worked from 10:00am 2:00pm, ate breakfast and lunch and had coffee all day with refills. We met people who were regulars that came as much as we did and discovered they were other business owners. The owner and the staff became part of our daily work routine it was fun and a very nice place to work. We worked at Blue Marble Java for the first three years of Ujima. We did our best brainstorming,  polite disagreements about content or photos but we always made sure the issue was on point. When Blue Marble Java closed it was sad for many different reasons. Not only did we have to find another working  community we missed seeing the regulars and the staff. We did not find another work space like  that for a long time. We hope everyone that worked there with us are … Continue reading Coworking Before Coworking Was Cool…
