- Plan a Safe Route:
- Before heading out, plan your trick-or-treating route. Stick to well-lit areas and well-known neighborhoods.
- Inform someone you trust about your route and expected return time.
- Be Visible:
- Wear bright or reflective costumes, or add reflective tape to your costume, to make yourself more visible to drivers.
- Carry a flashlight or glow sticks to illuminate your path.
- Stay in Groups:
- Trick-or-treat in a group with friends or family. There’s safety in numbers.
- Young children should always be accompanied by an adult.
- Check Treats:
- When you get home, inspect your candy and treats. Discard anything that looks tampered with or is not in its original, sealed packaging.
- Avoid homemade treats from strangers.
- Street Safety:
- Always use crosswalks, sidewalks, and obey traffic rules when crossing streets.
- Be cautious of drivers, and make eye contact before crossing in front of a car.
Remember Halloween is meant to be a fun and enjoyable, and taking these precautions can help ensure a safe and happy experience.
